Lycian Way: Most Beautiful Stages
The Lycian Way (Turkish: Likya Yolu) is one of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in the world – and for good reason. The 509 km long trail leads from Fethiye in the west to Antalya in the east along the Turkish Mediterranean coast through ancient Lycia. It combines spectacular coastal panoramas, hidden coves, pine forests, and ancient ruins into an unforgettable adventure.

For trekking enthusiasts who don't want to hike the entire route, we've compiled the most beautiful stages here. These sections offer the perfect blend of nature, culture, and manageable challenges – ideal for guided group tours or individual hikes with our trekking agency.
A brief history and culture of the Lycians
The Lycians were an ancient people in southwestern Anatolia, first mentioned around 800 BC. They lived in a loose federation of independent city-states, were known for their love of freedom, and fought bravely against the Persians and other conquerors. Their unique rock tombs, magnificent sarcophagi, and theaters are famous – many of which are located right along the way.

The Lycian Way itself follows ancient trade and caravan routes. It was established in 1999 as Turkey's first marked long-distance hiking trail (red and white markings). Today, it leads through abandoned villages, past Byzantine churches, and Lycian cities such as Xanthos, Myra, and Olympos. Along the way, hikers experience warm Turkish hospitality: fresh trout in mountain villages, Turkish tea in simple guesthouses, and stories from locals about the ancient past. Culture and nature merge here to create a unique experience.
